# Chin Lift

The chin lift is a first aid technique used to open a person's airway, often in unconscious individuals. It helps prevent the tongue from blocking the throat.

**What is the chin lift technique in first aid and when should it be used?**

## Symptoms that indicate a chin lift may be beneficial:

- Unconsciousness
- No signs of breathing
- Gasping or irregular breathing
- Noisy or obstructed breathing
- Lack of chest movement

## How to do a chin lift:

1. Ensure the person is lying on their back.
2. Place one hand on their forehead to gently tilt the head back.
3. Use two fingers under the chin to lift it upwards.
4. Do not press deeply into the soft tissue under the chin.
5. Check for normal breathing and proceed with first aid if necessary.
